The Learning Commons advertises its programs and services through the Virtual Learning Commons, announcements on the PA system, the school’s marquee, phone messenger, or any appropriate means.
Learning Commons Newsletter/Website
A Learning Commons newsletter is issued on the Virtual Learning Commons every two months.

Reports
The Library Media Specialist will create a report each nine weeks highlighting the lessons and activities during that nine week period as well as the data on usage and attendance.
Learning Commons Data Report
Copies of the yearly survey filed with the South Carolina Department of Education, Office of Library Media Services, 1429 Senate Street, Room 513-C, Columbia, South Carolina 29201 are available in the Learning Commons.
Parent-Teacher Organization
The PTO supports and promotes the Learning Commons program throughout the year. This organization is particularly helpful during Book Fair weeks, as they provide volunteers and other resources.
Special Programs
The Learning Commons offers a variety of special programs throughout the year. Depending on schedules and interest, the programs include, but are not limited to:
- Book Fair - twice per school year (dates vary)
- Read With the Gamecocks - Fall
- Dot Day Activities - September
- Global Read Aloud - October
- Star Wars Reads Day - October
- Picture Book Month - November
- Week of Code - December
- 100 Day Activities - January/February
- South Carolina Book Awards - August through February ( reading begins in August -voting is held in February to be reported by February 28)
- Read Across America - March 2 (program runs for one week near/around this date- Dr. Suess' birthday)
- Blowfish Baseball Reading Rewards Program - Spring
- One Book, One School - Fall or Spring depending on funding
- Professional Development for Faculty and Staff - as requested
- Maker Spaces
- The Maker movement which encourages creativity and problem solving involving STEM has prompted GPS LC to develop a maker space. Various activities will be offered before school and during the day for students to experiment and create. A variety of materials will be provided including but not limited to: crafts, technology, games, puzzles, building materials such as Legos, K'Nex, Gears, Magformers, circuitry exploration with little bits and Makey Makey, Sewing and Robots. When possible maker activities will be tied to content standards in the classroom. Students will have the opportunity to visit the maker space during the day with passes from their teacher.
